I spent two months as a visitor research student within the Department of Chemical Engineering and Loughborough University. This stay took place in the framework of my Master’s dissertation, which I am currently doing at my home University in Karlsruhe, Germany (KIT). My stay was financially supported by PROMOS scholarship of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

During my time here, I had access to modern laboratories, great scientific exchange with staff and students and a convenient working environment. I found that Loughborough university was a great environment for advancing with my research and my dissertation.

I learnt a lot about international and intercultural exchange and the scientific landscape in the UK. This meant I could develop my important personal skills. To sum up, my placement was a huge success in a professional and personal matter.

My greatest achievement during my time here was building up and improving the experimental set-up in the laboratory which was a great success. It led to a productive phase of executing experiments which extraordinarily advanced my research and my way to finalise my dissertation project.

Typically, I started a day with answering emails and planning my experiments. The majority of the day I spent in the laboratory executing my experiments. In the afternoon I analysed the obtained data and prepared it to discuss with my supervisors.

After finalising my dissertation, I want to start working in pharmaceutical or food process industry, preferable in a research and development position as an engineer. I am seeking for international opportunities to expand my personal horizon and grow in my career. I feel that my time here at Loughborough has supported these goals in two major field. First, I was able to sharpen my scientific skills and knowledge and second, I was able to make contact with an internationally inspired working environment and personal connections to fellow researchers.

My work included all important parts of planning and executing a dissertation project. Next to scientific experiments in the laboratory, I spent time on literature research, data analysis and data presentation.

Loughborough University is a great place for young scientists, offering an international working environment, modern facilities and a beautiful campus. I can strongly recommend taking any chance to study and work here.
