Cost-benefits of managing risk
Through our research, we know that Occupational Health teams may need to demonstrate to senior managers the benefits of investing in the occupational health of drivers. This can be a complicated process and, if you work in a large organisation, may involve collating data from various parts of the organisation. The information provided on this page summarises the types of data you may find helpful to collate. We have also developed an advice sheet on cost-benefits for you to download. For more detailed advice, we suggest you to seek the advice of a health economist.
The types of data to collect
When demonstrating the cost-benefit of investing in the occupational health of drivers, you may wish to collect data on the following:
- workforce size,
- the average gross salary,
- costs associated with sickness absence,
- costs of Occupational Health services ,
- costs of ill health retirement,
- costs associated with staff turnover,
- other associated costs (e.g. replacement car, insurance claims).
